You have to keep a bound book with the make, serial and year of the rifles purchased and sold. There are PDFs online of the book you can print off. Its a no brainer if you like the old stuff. The license is $30 for 3 years. It pays for itself in one transfer. Plus it simplifies buying.

Sweet! Congrats. How hard was the process to get the license? Similar to the carry permit or NFA/Class 3 stuff?

It's very different other than saying that filling forms in of itself is a "similar" process. The C&R License (type 3 FFL) process is an abridged version of applying for a dealer (type 1) FFL to the point where it is much easier than a CWL or a Form 4 NFA; however, the work is really maintaining the book and dealing with possible audits. A friend of mine in Boca got a call from the ATF within days of receiving his C&R asking for a meeting to examine his bound book. They had actually tried to visit him unannounced first but no one was home. Since there was nothing purchased under his C&R, he made an appointment at their WPB field office and brought his empty book. The agent upon seeing that it was blank went over the basic rules and told him to have a good day.

Dan Congratulations! I had no idea you could ecen do stuff like that. I'm not a big fan of collecting relic but love to see them restored and watch the process.

It is a 4 page form (2 pages and then a copy of the 2 pages for local LEO Cheif) not needing fingerprints and not needing any certification. It is easy. The longest part of the process was waiting for them to send me the application. That part took a month. Once I sent it in I had my license in less then a month. The bound book is easy too. There is a PDF online, you print 10-15 pages of it to get started and thats it. No problem. For anyone that likes the old stuff, this makes buying them much easier and cheaper.

Dan is now going to prepare for zombies... WWII style!

There are some decent WWII C&R eligible weapons out there. I believe I read somewhere that old weapons only qualify if they are no longer being manufactured today. Is this correct? So buying a WWII 1911 wouldn't work with a C&R because it is still a modern made firearm?

Most people I've seen with C&R's are buffs that collect all things pertaining to a particular war - not really looking to stockpile old firearms.

Don't they also refer to the C&R as a collectors license? I've heard if you have a Type 1 FFL you have to show enough transactions to be a self-sustaining business - but with a Type 3 you are waived from this requirement.

Is all that true C3PO? (Class 3 Phil's Opinion)

Yes zombie destruction WWII style, I like it. I will be prepared, 5 shots at a time. As for the weapons you can buy, they have to be a minimum of 50yrs old. If they are, you can buy them with your C&R. I have seen WWII 1911's that are C&R eligible among other fine pistols. Actually, its quite amazing some of the weapons that qualify. I like the Mosin Nagants but I wouldnt have gotten it for just that. There are a host of weapons you can buy with your C&R. There is no limit to the amount you can buy but if they suspect you of dealing (buying and selling) you are in a world of trouble. They expect you to do some selling as a reasonable collector would but not dealing. Like I said, for me it was a no brainer. The form was simple, the fee was $30, and the bound book is by no way complicated. All zombies look out for my WWII arsenal...LOL.

BTW....LMAO @C3PO, funny stuff

Are you going to have a hard book as a binder or use something in Excel?

Sorry, I just can't identify with C3PO. All I can think of is Joan Rivers in Space Balls. Yuck.

As to the qualifications, there's a very specific list and some of the stuff is still made today so I would assume that the criteria is whatever the ATF subjectively and objectively says ok to whenever someone asks to add something to the list.
