Sell off that 92 and get an XD. Damn we really need to do another group outing now. Need to convince Synergy, but his woman I believe is very liberal and wouldn't be happy about a trip to the range being part of the festivities. I think my woman could convince her though.
Btw, your Jerks are going down like Satan's Mom! Maybe we should grab a few guys from in here to join the old HT FFL (not that kind of FFL people, we're talking Fantasy Football). Speaking of all that, I'm surprised Shady hasn't joined up here. Going to have to mention that to him.

I think Vert got it because he wanted to get 2 of them to wield dualies. Just get rid of that and grab an XD45 Compact or a baby 1911 - that is if you want something that is good for carry. The XD45C comes with compact and fullsize mags, so it's like having 2 pistols in 1.

It was actually a hand me down from my old man so I'm still not 100% sure I want to get rid of it. I do like the idea of dual wielding, lol.
I like the concept of the XD45C, although I'm not sure when I'd have the extension on outside of being at the range. Speaking of, I need to go try out the range Cris mentioned to get an idea of what compact gun would actually feel comfortable in my bear paws.

No LEO or Military, he was just a fan of em. I'll also have his wartime Luger when he's ready to give it to me (that thing won't be seeing any rounds though!)
I'm glad you guys see why I'm hesitant to sell/trade the Beretta but that unfortunately still doesn't solve my lack of carry issue......I think I just have a serious problem with buying another gun before I put any money into modding my car (yes, its an addiction....lol). Fullsize mag makes for a great 2nd mag in your carry package... if you're one of those people that thinks 10 rounds won't be enough.
I figure that if 10 rounds of 45acp doesn't get me away from harm or eliminate the threat that I'm already in over my head and likely somewhere I never should have been.
Plus having the 13 rounders are good if you plan to get into any shooting sports one day or if you want a more tactical package for a SHTF bag.

So if I go up to Markam park and do anything other than single shots with 1 second spacing I'll get angry looks?
1 second is too close for them. That is a rifle range if you have a rifle go there. Don't go for handgun.
1 second is too close for them. That is a rifle range if you have a rifle go there. Don't go for handgun.
The problem with using a handgun there is the closest you can bring the target is 15 yards. That is 45 feet. A little too far for self defense practice. I usually practice handgun self defense shooting at a distance of 15-25 feet. And 25 feet is actually too far out but I just do it to try to get better closer.
JaxChris
08-06-2009, 06:13 PM
25ft is too far for you? I practice at 20-30ft always and work to keep it all in the 9 ring on an 8.5x11 printed target from my computer - not full sized targets.
So am I trying too hard? I can keep 90% within the 8 ring and 50% in the 9 ring, with about 10-15% on the 10.
For size comparison, print out that right-hand diagnostic target I posted and put that at 25ft. That's about the same size as the 9 ring I practice for.
Matt does the same thing as I do.
25 ft is too far, at 25 ft you have the ability to retreat.
25 ft is too far, at 25 ft you have the ability to retreat.
I agree. Practicing at 25ft to get better at closer distances is one thing but if you engage someone at 25ft you might as well put the hand cuffs on yourself because you are going to jail.

I do 25ft on bullseye targets because the 9 ring is very small and will make my shot placement within 8-12ft far more accurate. If I ever have to draw and fire, I do not want to miss.
Also, a charging threat can reach contact distance from 21ft (hence the 7yd line at most ranges) by the time you can draw, aim, and fire. This gives you only a split second to identify the threat and about a 1 second to d/a/f. The LEO's I know in St John's County train for this with track mounted poppers that rush them.
Check them out, I would love a range around here that had them:

That's a hell of a training tool. That should be a standard for LEO training and self defense. It's a practical tool that trains the officer or individual to draw there weapon and fire as in a real time situation.

True, but with that training tool it could be a success to civilians who encounter that kind of scenario.
Man with a knife scenario where the assailant is charging at you is actually very common.
It could be an asset in one of those self defense shooting courses such as Bushido Tactical's or others.

Hence why I train with bullseyes and at a challenging distance. I believe that LE and civilian situations can be similar in some ways when you compare mugging & home invasion to charging threat & tactical response. I would ask Bushido about the 21ft response time, I think he'd agree.
I see nothing wrong with training for the worst and hoping for the best. That is why people take Bushido's classes after all. Si vis pacem, para bellum. =)

I made a legitimate related comment to the OP and people laugh and it snowballs out of control. Not entirely my fault, but it seems I'm always to blame. =)
Back when the internets finally started reaching homes in 1993 I could no longer go by Chris as I was used to being registered on every website and BBS out there (there was that few people online back then). So since it was more nationwide/worldwide exposure now I decided to throw Jax (airport code for Jacksonville, FL - longest place I've ever lived) in front of my name.
Being around the block a number of times you run into a fuck-ton (yes, that's a word) of Chris' out there. Because people would say "hey chris" and 15 people would reply, many people just started referring to me as just Jax. It's been like that so long now that online and offline more people call me Jax than Chris, except for at work. I still continue to register as JaxChris for 2 reasons. One is for continuity and the other is because many times 3 letters isn't a long enough name to register anywhere. I've had the name so long that on pretty much any popular site or email provider I am the JaxChris on there. It's simple and unique.
History lesson over. =)
thought the jax stood for something else, perhaps the way he spends his free time? :jerkit:
lol.

History lesson over. =)Oh man you know, I've heard that story before, but it was so good that I almost enjoyed hearing it again this time more! You should really tell it while we're at the range sometime.
