This is by far one of the lightest high powered hand guns to carry. If you decided to carry in your pocket or on the ankle you will barely be affected by the weight addition. You have the option to use either .357Mag or .38+P's. The nice part about a small revolver is you don't have to worry about a misfire like you do with a semi-automatic, pull the trigger if there is a misfire just pull again. Something to think about if you are not well adapted to a semi-automatic.

I carry a very similar model...360PD...only difference with mine is the hammer and the high vis front sight. Loaded with five rounds of 357, with the holster, it's only about 15 oz. I usually carry it in a pocket holster. I love this gun!

Yes as we noticed the difference this past weekend. The one's at Guntech have the high vis front sight also. Thats just the pic I got from the Smith site.

Sounds like the kind of gun I need to get my gf.

Most women won't want to shoot that gun.

Try shooting one with 357 before you make your decision. :D

there is a huge difference in weight. when i picked up my revolver, i was looking at one of these.

firing .357 round must be a lot of fun on the wrist!

Caught my thumb nail on the revolver the first time...split my nail open. Chris told me it would make me bleed. :D

So what's your excuse?

Cris

I shot one round out of those things and that was enough for me. Definitely not a gun you want to tinker with. I wouldn't have a problem shooting that thing in a time of need but just to play with, no thanks.

Yeah...it's really not fun. I put a box of 38 through it every now and then just to keep my skills up with it, but it's not a gun for target practice.

Cris

Go test fire it when you get it and then you are good to go in my book with that one.

Nah...I want to be proficient with any gun I'm carrying.

Cris

That gun was not designed for long range shooting. If you can't hit someone with 10-15ft with that, pack it in and shoot yourself.

Dave
09-25-2008, 09:02 PM
Yeah...obviously. I've been working with it at 25ft+.

So what's your excuse? My excuse? For what, wanting a hand gun? I just want to carry in hopes of someone trying to mug me. I can assure you it will be the last time they mug someone. :)

Cris

Just pickin on ya Matt. You're girl will deserve a high five if she fires that and keeps it.

to light for me & .357 rounds are fun on the wrist w/ my Taurus 650

Cris
09-26-2008, 08:25 AM
Looks to be about the same concept with that Taurus. Any .357 round in a short barrel like that is not meant to be fun.

i am yet to try a .357 round through my 617. i plan on it with my next visit to the range. i'm not expecting a big difference, only because the gun is pretty heavy all by itself.

we will see soon enough...

Cris
09-26-2008, 08:34 AM
Let us know how that works out for ya.

chrismia

i can tell you that the .38 round and even the +P round is very manageable. i've been more than happy with the performance of my little snubbie.

Chris
09-27-2008, 09:15 AM
there is going to be a huge difference in recoil from a 38 +p and a 357. Not to say 357 isnt manageble, it is, but comparing it to a 38 is apples to oranges

I'd guess from the super small grip, that you can't be a wuss and fire that gun more than a couple rounds at a time.. with my meat hooks, I don't think I'd be able to get more than 3 fingers on it.. and holy cow.. a 357 round would probably make you re-think shooting a 2nd time :D :D :D

either way.. with a round fo 38's in there, I'd carry it anyday!!

Dave
09-28-2008, 08:49 PM
Doesn't even fit two fingers. The only thing that stops it from coming out of your hand when shooting 357 is your finger inside the trigger guard. :D

you can get that with the crimson trace from S&W out of the box. saves you about $100 if you buy it brand new with it vs getting the crimson trace later on. of course it makes an expsensive gun more expensive :D

Cris
09-29-2008, 09:20 AM
Yeah, but if you are going to do it anyway, it pays to get in advance.

ProfessorStoneFace

with that gun at that point just spend the extra $100 :)

I have the 340PD...very happy with it. As stated - very light, very nice to carry. I have only taken it to the range once...fired 5 357 rounds through it. Definitely don't want to fire more than 5 at a time. The 38 round is very manageable. I carry it with 357 - if I need to use it...I'll be able to hit the target.

what are you loading that with?

Frontline

Thats some nasty penetrator stuff a buddy of mine makes for wheel guns. Mainly .38/.357/.44
Its a Tin lead alloy, a bit harder than lead, and will put a hole in yer average body armor, through and through on both doors of a 1973 monte carlo too.
Its .38 +p loads.

Well, even if they were, my wife would take her chances in court after a self defense situation. She likes living too much.
You are thinking of Rifle Claiber AP in a pistol version of a rifle.
Like an AK pistol with AP 7.62x39

Correct. I think SXT is the replacement. I believe they don't have the teflon coating though. Not positive about that though.

Yes, there is no longer the Magic Vest/Armored car penetrating Teflon (Thats a Copyrighted Dupont trademark, since I dont know how to use the symbol, Ive stated it.)

That's the one Dave....SXT (same exact thing, is what its supposed to stand for)
