Bolt-Guns Beat Semi-Autos in Norwegian Rapid-Fire Match.

This is a highly debated theme since there's lots of variables to take into consideration.

In Norway, the annual Landsskytterstevnet (Rifle Country Fair) is Norway’s largest shooting tournament. One of the most popular Landsskytterstevnet events is a rapid-fire competition. The objective is to achieve the most hits on multiple targets in a time period (typically 25 seconds or less). In some stages, all targets are at the same distance, while in other stages the shooters engage targets at 3 or 4 different distances. Keep in mind that avarage distance is 230m with a head sized target.

You would think that a semi-automatic rifle would dominate the rapid-fire matches, but that isn’t the case. In the video linked below, civilian shooters with mag-fed Rifle is SIG SSG3000 aka Sauer STR 6.5x55 with peep sights,

outpaced Norwegian army personnel using HK-G3s semi-autos. You’ll be amazed to see how fast these civilians can shoot their target rifles.

Shooter John O. Ågotnes shows fantastic gun handling and at 6:00min into the video shows winning the 2008 championship final. At 24:13 into the video it shows his 2009 final wich gave him 2nd. place and if you take a look at 2009 champion, Rinde at 31:18 into the video, he shoots a HK-G3 with impressive accuracy & speed with not even a flinch on his eyes.

Enjoy.....

Bolt actions are the shit, but I wouldn't of expected for the civilian guys to out shoot the military boys with semi's. That's cool!

It's called practice & repetition my friend.

These civilians are competitors and they sure can rack a bolt with efficiency making this look easy. If you notice they pull the trigger with the middle finger, while the index finger still sits clinched on the bolt knob. Their sights even though are not enhanced, are very precise and they're shooting high precision rifles taylored to the sport.

The soldiers on the other hand are not competitors (well.... at least not at this level). Their sights are iron battle sights which does not compare to sporting peeps. Their battle rifles the HK-G3 is a hard rifle to drive, a G3 trigger worked at best would be about a 4lbs pull, a bad overtravel and a long reset makes this rifle at best an accurate rifle. There is a G3 based precision rifle called the PSG1 but it is not it's predecessor by any means even though it is mechanically based the same.

Never the less these guys got to have a hell of discipline for this type shooting.

Technology is moving very fast and in the past recent years there has been a lot of successful developments involving high precision semi-auto rifles which are begining to replace some of the bolt action rifles in the arm forces.

The strongest factor here is and will always be practice, practice, practice....

Gotcha! They practice there ass off, you can tell. I didn't know much about G3 until now. It makes sense. They were out shot point blank!
