I had it out to the range last week and I was happy with the accuracy. Just under an inch with some older handloads I had. The only change I made was I swapped out the Burris Signature Zee Rings for a pair of Leupold Mark IV's. I like the Burris rings but felt the Leupolds offered a bit more holding power with 4 screws per ring instead of 2. Braked magnum rifles do weird things to scopes because of the opposing recoil forces they generate.

I lapped in the rings, mounted the Bushnell 3200 Elite Tactical 5-15 X, and she was good to go. I really like this new Savage, and I'm in the process of loading up some new brass with Sierra 190 Gr. Matchkings. I'm hoping to get out to the range this week if the damn weather clears. We've been getting a lot of rain lately. Bill T.

is the brake effective?

Yes, very much so. I have another .300 Win. Mag. It is a Remington 700 BDL that I purchased new back in 1972. It is a stock sporter that is quite a bit lighter than the Savage, but the recoil is far worse with identical loads. What is different with the fish gill brake on the Savage, is you can feel the blast pass by when you fire it. It's not annoying, just a different experience. Bill T.
