US military officials said today they would provide Taiwan with weapons to protect itself from a possible Chinese attack, despite Beijing's warning that such sales could lead to conflict.
The officials told a congressional hearing that China was preparing for a fight against the island.
The military build-up, which includes 1,000 ballistic missiles deployed opposite Taiwan, is in contrast to the improved ties between the rivals since the 2008 election of Taiwan president Ma Ying-jeou.
The comments follow China's announcement that it intercepted a missile during a test of new technology.

We would have no hope if China decided to knock on our door to collect on the debts we're starting to fall behind on paying them. Short of us using nukes, there is no way to defend against China - even if all 2 billion of them only had a stick each we'd still be fucked.

invasion? i understand that their population is quite high but an invasion is out of the question. I cannot accept that they would be able to cross either of the two great oceans to get to either of our shores. They may be able to attack, but i cannot see a land invasion being successful at all.

I sure hope that article is wrong. How stupid can our "leaders" possibly get? We're already using up a majority of our military resources in the middle east and now they want to piss China off. Maybe there's something to this whole 2012 thing and WWIII is about to begin.

Land invasion I'd say a no go also. We still have a small military force a the home front plus a number of armed citizens. Even with there numbers I don't think they'll be successfull in a land invasion.

Remember, the Chinese can duplicate anything we've already done or made - they just can't think for themselves because of generations of mental oppression. We already invested mass shore landings in WWII, so the Chinese can copy that.

Actually you have a seriously valid point. There is a number of Chinese here on student/work visas not to mention the tourism factor.

They are all over here because they are "rich" now compared to how they were and they are doing it on our dime because we won't stop buying shit from them.

I wonder how many of that 2 billion would actually stand up and fight. Aren't most of the civilians in China still in pretty oppressed states from the commy days? Perhaps their government wouldn't be as hard to over throw as most people think. The other countries around them are the biggest problem probably. To many people would join in on a chance to fucked America.
