Alright so here is a picture of my AR and current setup. I know it might not be everyones cup of tea but I love my scope.....but I can't stand my mount. I need it mounted higher so that it clears my rear buis. Any suggestions? I just thing that the current riser looks kinda large and gaudy and would prefer something a littler smaller. Anything out there that is somewhat shaped like a U and can mount on the top rail and then to the rail on the side of scope of something. I don't know...any ideas appreciated!

Rocker River. Nice! That's what I got. Yours is a little fancier though. Mine is still just a bare Entry Tactical. I haven't done anything to it yet. Been wanting a foreward grip and a magnified EOTech, but I got other stuff to buy right now.

That's a nice little scope you got on there. What is it? I dream of a nice EOTech, but I don't really want to spend the money.

Yh I love my AR. Has functioned flawlessly...not even a malfuction of any sorts. I really really wanted an Aimpoint with a 3x magnifier on a flip mount but haven't had the funds. I got real lucky on the Troy rail and the BUIS (just ask Cris lol). The scope I have is a Barska. It's a fixed 4x and it has green, red and then the regular black with mildots....Love it...except the mount

Some guy at a gun store told me that the Rock Rivers have a problem where the screws that hold the gas tube on the bolt come loose and can cause some sort of KaBoom, but I have yet to have a problem with mine, nor have I heard of anyone else having that issue. Soo.....

Ok, back to your threads topic. Come on C3P0! :ss1:

I wouldn't recommend raising the scope anymore than that riser already does. It will effect the optic even more than where its zero'd at. It's a hard play with that thing since you probably need the proper eye relief to use it. I kind of remember that thing, but also not all that well. You are in a hard place on that one. Yes, you did get a hell of deal on that rail and rear flip. Just the luck of the draw sometimes, that was your lucky day though.

Grab a few small YHM 1" risers and stack them to the desired height. As for what Satan was asking. I think the guy was trying to say that the gas keys have not been properly staked on the bolt carriers. I have not heard that.

Only things I don't care for on RRA rifles is their use of commercial buffer tubes instead of mil-spec tubes, only 1/9 twist, and not choice of barrel profiles. Commercial limits your choice of aftermarket stocks but everything is offered in mil-spec. A 1/9 twist doesn't allow higher grain ammunition. And a lack of lightweight or M4 profile means I can't build a light high-speed, low drag AR out of one of their models.

Yeah well I love my RRA rifle just the same. I've heard of a few glitches in there upper assembly, but I haven't had any issues myself.

Yh I don't want to raise it any higher, but I don't like that current riser. I feel it is too bulky and I hate the look of it. I was hoping to replace the riser with a different scope mount/riser.

Like this picture. This type of mount (which probably would also give me the rise that I need to clear the BUIS as well) would be awesome as it would shave off some weight and is not as large and guady as the riser I have now.

Problem being I can't find one like the above that would fit the scope I have now. I thought I had seen a mount like the one above but instead of coming from the flattop directly underneath the scope and attaching to it there, it would swing slightly out the the right and then come back in and attach to the side of the scope seeing that it has rails there (like a U that I described in the initial post). Although the more and more I think about it and try to find what I thought I saw the more and more I think I made it up and am crazy lolol

Just in case my AR pic wasn't clear enough here is a better pic from Barska's sight of my current scope.

That mount pushes the optic forward, I have it on my AR, designed for the aimpoint.

Yh I know but I'm sure it could fit other optics correct? Not saying that that one will work but something along those lines is what I would prefer....not some large ass riser.

Mine does have the 1:9 twist, but they have some that are 1:8 twist. I don't know. You're making me want to sell it and build my own lol. I want a spikes tactical. Their torture test was crazy. When the zombies come I need a reliable rifle!

Yh I don't even know the twist in my barrel....probably should check lol...I assume I have the 1:9. Will check tonight

Raising it any higher is not practical as Cris mentioned, you have 2 choices that I think would work well for you.

1) If you want to keep your Barska, remove your rear buis. In any case you can't use your buis unless you remove the scope, since it is magnified.

or

The route I would probably take which will obviously cost you $.
2) Sell the Barska and buy a scope which has a better eye relief or buy a QA sight system with a flip magnifier. This will allow you to co-witness your sight system with your buis and use it as a back up if needed. When you need the magnifier fold your buis and flip your magnifier in place. 2 seconds flat and no dismantling.

I would love the 2nd option except for that fact that the government and the IRS decided to rape me extremely hard this year :suicide1:

Well, if you want the BUIS to clear, you will have to raise the optic. The height would be similar to an ACOG mounted on a carry handle. There might be a riser that might have a viewing hole for the BUIS, but honestly, it would look a bit funky and you would be making a hardware investment for a "temporary" optic. Save your money and go with a flip to the side arrangement. Unless you are doing a carbine drill that requires iron sights, I doubt you'll be using them that much.

My future SBR will have an Aimpoint T-1 and BUIS's. The lightweight carbine will have probably have the same. The woman's SPR will probably get upgraded to an ACOG style down the road or maybe an EOTech w/ 3xMag.
