View Full Version : IMPORTANT (3/24/10 Site upgrades)

To better serve us all we will be performing a major site overhaul and software upgrade for the next 24 to 48 hours.
As well as recently moving our hosting to a dedicated i5 there are some MAJOR changes coming as far as our ability to serve you all.
We will be changing our software to Vbulletin 4.0 publishing suite which will give us a vast new array of tools as far as content management goes.
The forum will stay intact as it has always been, though we most likely will overhaul it and incorporate some new things but a few of the exciting changes wil be
the ability to allow all users blogs, with distint URL's
The ability to handle vastly more content such as news, bulletins and other media. All handled from within.
The opportunity to expand the Tacticaladv brand with merchandise and an inhouse shopping cart without the added cost of outside vendors and just a ton of other benefits.
We will also be able to truly publish user articles and reviews. This is really a huge thing for me. As much fun as it is I started this forum to be a place for learning as well as entertainment. This will really allow us as a group to legitimize our knowledge base and help substantially more people enjoy the shooting sports.
With all this said, we do not expect any major downtime in the transition but there may be some spots within the next few days which the site will be unavailable. Please be patient as we will work as hard and as fast as we can.
I also ask that everyone be positive with the staff as we make these changes. The layout will be different and there will be some signifacant changes so the beginning may be difficult and there may be some bugs, but with all your help we can try to iron them out as fast as possible.
In parting I want to Thank all of you for sticking with us and I look forward to making this a fun and informative place for all of you.

To be honest... it's harder on the eyes to focus and read quickly with the foreground being completely transparent. Can you add some opaqueness?
The sad reality I faced when trying to decide on skins... the best ones in screen shots are the most difficult to browse and enjoy.
Also, can hue of the new posts inside icon from the main index be changed to a darker blue that stands out more from the grey no new posts icon? On low brightness on the laptop I can't tell the difference and on the woman's laptop (Gateway with a basic LCD panel in it) you can barely tell the difference with full brightness.
Little things like that are often overlooked by the skin designs because they usually don't test on laptops for user experience.
Just a couple thoughts, I'll deal with it either way. =)
Don't worry, we're going to be making a lot of changes. Whatever we do is going to end up being very customized anyway. This is up in the meantime, and if we decide to roll with it, there will be a lot of changes.

Also, the server side sessions are not storing when hitting the www subdirectory. All links point to //tacticaladv.com but login refreshes to www.tacticaladv.com so it looks like you're not signed in and won't refresh the main index to see what is new unless you strip the www or hit the Forum tab at the top which points to //tacticaladv.com
If anyone sees more stuff like this, would you like it mentioned here Dave and Chris?

I like the DarkVision template so far over the others for one reason, it scales down to the narrowest widths. This is good for work where I run multiple browsers all day and won't have to scroll to read sentences.

So the first time I tested the new upgraded site, as I stated, the log in screen worked perfectly. Whereas the old one use to make me have to click "forum index" before it showed me logged in. Today I log in and it takes me to a screen saying "You do not have permission to view this page" rather than taking me to the home page.
Why is that? Did you change something yesterday or something?

Trying clearing your cookies. I made a setting change this morning that may be causing that. I tested and verified that the log ins, both the page and the header, work from www.tacticaladv.com and tacticaladv.com. Let me know.

Probably not a link for it in the skin you're using. We'll add all that stuff once we have the skin finalized.

Negative. Cookies does not work. I first encounter the problem at my moms house while on my lunch break actually, and thought maybe it was because I was doing a Firefox private browsing session to keep my private info of their stupidly maintained computer. When I got home, cleared the cookies, and it's still doing it. I am not sure. It's not a big deal, just wondering.

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Not sure what's wrong yet. You guys both have permissions to view the home page.
check the log in the server... maybe there is reporting what file is the one with problems...
it maybe the file http://tacticaladv.com/content.php or main.php or forum.php
There's over 10K entries in the log just so far today. I don't have time to track this down like that. It sounds like a permission issue with the new CMS, but I verified that they were correct. Maybe there are some permissions somewhere that I'm missing.

I like Darkness. There seems to be some slight issues with the position of some of the icons. I also see that the mobile was re-activated.

One thing for me, I cannot view the home page anymore. It says I don't have sufficient privileges. Whats up with that?

I was in Orange Park, mother was in Mandarin. I'm in St Pete now, but try to make it up there once a month.
There was a new place just across the St Johns County line that offers everything, but it appears that place might be shut down now. It is a good place for tactical range training if you want to do competitions and other items. Check out www.ATTAC-FL.com

please take a screen shot of the home page and post it, Also if you try to get on the home page log in on the home page and see if that works. Ill have the day off on friday and ill try to get the issue taken care of.

Yup, that's what I get as well, but it's not much different from it lot logging me in on the old forums until I clicked into one of the forums. I have Firefox 3.6 but I know there's users here that don't have that problem. Anyways, it's not effecting my ability to use the forums so I am not to concerned with it.
I get the same thing.. then I click on forum and I have the default skin.. crazy

Hmm, my cookie for the site got jacked and was trying to stick me with Darkness for the main index and then DarkVision inside each forum. Weird. Logged out, deleted site specific cookie, and then logged back in to resolve.
