Alright so I've been throwing this idea around and this year may be the year I decide to implement it...hopefully. I would like to buy a few acres in either Northern Florida, Georgia, South or North Carolina. I love to be outdoors and camping etc and thought it would be great to buy our own plot of land outright and then erect a small cabin. Now this would work well as a getaway to go camping, fishing, hiking, hunting etc as well as an escape in case of emergency etc. I would want it off the grid as it would be small and probably a tiny solar system to run some small things, and some type of homemade water system (have already researched it and have an idea how I want the complete setup as I do the solar power and the design of the cabin). I would love something, as I stated above, away from it all (no cities real close by) and preferably near a water source (ie river, lake etc).

Anyone have any idea on specific locations in the above states and/or website addresses to get more info on plots etc? I have researched a few but the more the merrier. Once I have the property everything would be done by myself with possibly some help from friends that have a lot more experience etc. I also need to research at what size a building that is being erected would require a permit and thus more expenses, taxes etc (from what I have read). I'm still in the premilinary planning stages and will need to sock some money, but I would love to have the plot purchased this time next year....also will depend on cost of the plot. I was hoping to keep it under $10k for the land but for anything more than 4 acres or so I think I may need to up my max. Of course a lot also depends on location. :rich:

Thanks!

Baker county, just outside of Jacksonville. It is dirt cheap, very wooded, and close enough to everything you might need over on the west side of Jacksonville. Or you could go farther west and try Ft White, or the outer fringes of Live Oak.

I think between Jacksonville and Lake City, just south of I-10, there is still some anti-society land available for about 2k/acre. Remember, it's easier to take your guns with you if you're staying in the same state. =)

That's very true about the guns :) I'm desperate to buy some land that I can call my own and have to get away from everything. Unfortunately the wife out of work has put this a little farther away but I am hoping that perhaps this time next year I can have a nice 5-10 acres depending on price

Georgia has some nice land up in Hiawassee area where Secpro was biking. My grandpa had a big lot with a river and land across the river in the woods at the foot of a mountain. Really nice vacation spot to relax.

Ah, Secpro no bike! You meant Lino and his crew.

LOL..really hoping I can do something by this time next year....getting really exciting about it. I have a buddy who may go 50-50 in with me which would be a huge help and getting 5-10 acres there would be plenty of room for both of us:)

I'm pretty sure I am set on East Coast between northern Florida and North Carolina but you never know and I'm open for ideas lol. How much does land there run per acre? I do love the woods and prefer woodsy land lol
