for a M1903 . one of the members on the SoFla SB site asked ME what would be a good scope for his rifle.. I pointed him here and told him to ask C3PO..

Did you tell him to knock three times before he opens the door and bring a box of cigars?

I don't know much about the springfields specifically. Since he has it sporterized, I guess it probably is a deer gun? Back when I hunted, we used stones and spears. Ha ha, no seriously, I found that a decent 3x9 a good all around scope at least here in the south. For a while, I wound up hunting in a stand with heavy cover that ultimately got to be easier to just using plain open sights. I think if I were him, I'd focus on finding a mount for it as that sometimes dictates what size glass you can put on it.

Those are not regular mounts either, correct? More of an offset type.

That's seems to be correct. I think they either need to be drilled and tapped or use the sniper M84 type mounts.

Tell him to leave the rifle as it and not to ruin it by adding a scope. If he wants a .308 rifle with a scope, get a new rifle.

I have to agree with that myself, if it ain't tapped already don't mess with it.
