I take Dave with me. He's my Carry Setup. :D
Ive been lax lately on carrying, but now that Im not teaching anymore, theres no excuse for me to NOT have at least the seecamp or keltec in my bag.
I usually carry two of the following...one gun and one knife. Most of the time it's the 360PD in a pocket holster, with the DE Microtech. Looking forward to getting the Crossbreed holster and carrying the Kimber more often.

Hah! I usually carry concealed, IWB, but I'm just really skinny. I can tuck a full 5" 1911 and you *might* see the butt of the gun every once in awhile.

Seecamp 32? I've heard some good things there, but it's just too small for my hands. I hate kel-tecs...

Yep .32. My Dad had it made for me. The serial number is my birth date and initials. :)
the keltec is just easy to carry. When you use the right ammo, it works great. Its perfect for carrying on my ankle holster when we're riding. (Not that we ride anymore..)

Meh, everytime I shot a kel-tec, my hands were almost numb after a mag or two. Just not my style, but they are super easy to carry.

I use that same exact Colt New Agent for my main carry. I love it, accurate as hell for a 3" and fairly lightweight, also nice and narrow. Trench sights took about 100 rds to get used to but are noo problem at all and no snag on quick draw.

Just get the magplate grip extension for the XD. This will allow a smaller concealed profile while giving a better grip of the weapon.

I have seen where some people have shaved the Pearce grip so that it covers just enough for their pinky and get rid of the rest to help decrease the concealment profile as much as possible. The few I've seen look really good actually. Makes me wish Pearce made a couple different sizes *(lengths) of the extension.
Fits me just fine. I have four of them with no need to shave them down. Crossbreed holster FTMFW!!!

I may pick up a Miami out fit when I get my carry permit. ha
Also theres a glock I am now very interested in. The Glock 30. Small, Durable, .45. I am thinking a glock 30 with a LaserMax system. It'd be a perfect carry gun.

And you just like the rounded nose of the Glock sub-compact, admit it.The slim one doesn't hold as many rounds. The Glock 30 holds 10, the 36 only holds 6. At least that's what Glock's website says. And I like it because it is a .45 Subcompact, something springfield hasn't made yet.

What Glock calls their 45 Sub-Compact is really the same as the XD45 Compact. It is a short 3 finger grip with a 4" barrel. XD's subcompact uses a 3" barrel which is prohibitive to the ballistics of the 45 round. Glock doesn't make any 3" barrel sub-compacts. All of their subby's are 3.75-4.00" barrels.
Compare the stats (height, length, width, barrel length) and see for yourself.
Satan_3pc
05-23-2009, 10:54 PM
I have held both guns in my hands at the gun store, and the Glock still feels smaller.
Glock 30
LENGTH
172 mm / 6.77 in.
HEIGHT
121 mm / 4.76 in.
XD45 Compact
LENGTH
7.3"
HEIGHT
5"
Those are taken directly off their official websites. Contrary to barrel size, their .45 is still smaller, but like you said, we will have to rent some guns together and decide on a good carry gun. The Glock 30 and the XD45 Compact are both my top two candidates though.
JaxChris
05-24-2009, 08:36 PM
You're not looking at width, that is an important measurement on a carry weapon?
The Glock30 just doesn't seem to have the accessories that the Glock36 does (because the Glock36 shares the same size frame as the 9mm/40SW models).
Satan_3pc
05-24-2009, 08:58 PM
Well as I said before, the Glock 36 only holds 6 rounds. I am completely NOT happy with that. The Glock is still not as wide as the XD45 Compact. I wasn't able to find an "official" width on the XD, but I found a couple guys on forums measuring it.
Glock 30
Width 1.27"
XD45 Compact
Width 1.295" (CanyonJack of XDTalk:" "The widest part of the gun is 1.295")
Not much difference... Why are you so against the Glock 30 anyways? Either way we still need to test some of these out. I think I definitely want my carry to be a .45 though. So it's basicly down to the Glock 30 or the XD45 Compact. No Glock 36. Six rounds is unacceptable in my book.
Just for the hell of it, the Glock 36 width is 1.13" according to their website. That's also not much difference compared to the Glock 30's 1.27".
If six rounds is unacceptable, then carry a spare mag or two. Always seemed to work for all those 1911 shooters... :)

Mag Pouch (http://www.usmilitarysurplus.com/surpluscatalog/product_info.php?cPath=196_198_200&products_id=3192)
Just get something like this to carry an extra mag. It's OWB but it looks like a multi-tool pouch and nobody would be the wiser. Single stack mags fit perfect without being too bulky. Wouldn't you rather have 12+1? lol
They also have horizontal mag pouches that would sit great along the back of your belt when covered by your over shirt and you wouldn't feel them while sitting with a single stack inside.

05-25-2009, 10:15 AM
And btw, if you don't care too much about dimensions except for the grip length (shirt profile) then here is the winner as far as I'm concerned...

JaxChris

Satan_3pc
05-26-2009, 01:10 AM
....but isn't that extra length a factor in concealing? I mean if you have it holstered in a crossbreed or something, there's more of a chance it'd be sticking out in your pant leg. I guess I could just claim I have a big dick.

JaxChris
05-26-2009, 06:48 AM
Matt, if you're worried about that then you should only focus on a 9mm/40S&W XD Sub-Compact as it has the shortest barrel. The Glock30 has a shorter barrel than the XD45 Compact though.
I'm still in the position that if I want a 45 compact, it would be the Glock 36 or XD45 Compact. But I am curious about the 5" XD45 Compact because with the extended magazine it's like having 2 different pistols. =)
Satan_3pc
05-26-2009, 09:09 AM
I'm just curious about having a Glock. Everyone says how reliable they are and how much you can beat them up, and I wouldn't have a soft stop for it. It's a hunk of .45 that kills.
The Glock 30 take the Glock 21 clips though, but it doesn't have that nice molded extension like the XD of course.
P.S. Lets go to the range Friday.
They make couplers for the mags to fill the void in the Glock mags. Problem solved.
Satan_3pc
05-26-2009, 09:18 AM
Also I've been popping around on a lot of forums and crap just doing google searches for the Glock 30. A lot of people have said they conceal it in plain clothes... others say its to bulky, but I can't imagine it being bulkier than the XD compact as its the same width.
So as we said before Jax, we need to try these guns out. I'm off Friday again.
The only place it may be too bulky is the grip, that depends on your paw size. I know Jax shouldn't have a prob.

As for it being bulky I wouldn't say so. My paws are a bit large though! To proove a point though the G30 was bought for the misses and Cris will tell ya her paws aren't all that big. As with anything I guess it comes down to a matter of preference.
I have a G30SF and I am a fat guy. It conceals on me with a crossbreed holster with no problem. My only issue with the G30SF is its weight when loaded, it pulls my shorts down. I have to really cinch my belt to keep it from exposing me.

I carry a 5" all-steel 1911 without a problem. The solution to a longer barreled gun is the cant - or angle - of the gun in the holster. Instead of it sticking straight up and down, the gun is tilted butt forward. This is the way most people carry IWB, and it's also known as the FBI cant.
The Glock 30 take the Glock 21 clips though

Yep, like any good leather holster, you get what you pay for. I've had this belt for 4+ years now, and it's still looks and functions like new.
Good deal! I feel another investment coming on. Due you have to lube the leather etc?

I'm not sure if you're supposed to or not, but I never have. It can be a bit squeaky from time to time, but it doesn't bother me.
edit - from his website FAQ's:
Do NOT use leather softeners such as Neats Foot Oil or Mink Oil on these belts unless you want them limp as a noodle! Our leather is of sufficient quality to last for many years. This stuff is fine for your baseball glove or your hiking boots, but not for gun belts or holsters.
