to find out the status of a Form 1 and a Form 4. The F1 was sent via priority mail on July 29, received Aug 1, and the check cashed on Aug 8. Form 1's are sent to BATFE's main office in WV. On September 15th, the F1 was moved to pending status. What this means was that the application was assigned to an ATF examiner to get processed. In the past, the average time from this point was 2-6 weeks, so I was anticipating the approved form to arrive in the mail for the past couple of weeks. I called yesterday to find out the status and it is still in pending. Argh!!

On Sept 10, I send out a Form 4 and it gets delivered on Sept 12. Form 4's are sent to the NFA branch in Atlanta where they process the check and log in the application where it then gets shipped to the main office in WV. The check clears on the 17th. So I'm thinking that this will be an end of the year time frame. So for shits and giggles, I ask about the status of this one and I was told it was approved yesterday.

I asked if there was anything wrong with the F1 and I was told that some agents have different workloads and that my forms were with different examiners. I know this was done in the past at other websites and that the BATFE has had enormous turnover regarding NFA screeners, but I think I'm going to start posting the names of the examiners and how long each one has taken to process these forms. Some obviously SUCK at their jobs. lol

That's a long time to wait. I bet it wouldn't take so long if you didn't have to pay upfront.

I doubt the $200 per stamp is a big part of their budgeted revenue. In fact I think it goes straight to the Treasury Dept. I don't recall the 2006 summary numbers that were published in Small Arms Review, but I was surprised of how small the numbers were. Back when the $200 stamp was mandated for all NFA transfers, $200 was a very significant amount. That amount was set more as a deterent rather than a revenue source. Today, $200 is an amount that is acceptable to a greater majority of the population, but I still think the government doesn't want to issue these out with the convenience of the applicant in mind.

ATF is moving slow due to election... I have seen on other boards that the time frame has slowed to a crawl over the past 6 months

Post names. You know they are making good money and should be damn efficient at the job they are doing.
